Step 1: My artwork typically begins on the potter’s wheel
Step 2: Since I work almost exclusively with porcelain, very little water is used in the throwing process.
Step 3: The outside surface is smoothed continually to extract as much water as possible and to compress the surface of the vessel.
Step 4: Prior to finishing a piece, a metal rib is used to further smooth and compress the surface.
Step 5: Excess clay is removed from the bottom of the vessel before removing it from the throwing bat.
Step 6: Once a piece is bone dry, the carving process can begin.
